About Us

Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal is India's first private container terminal. It was set up in 1997 and was inherited by DP World as part of the P&O Ports acquisition in 2006. Built at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India's largest gateway to container trade, DP World Nhava Sheva has long been a significant contributor to the country's development and a shining example for all subsequent container terminal operators.

Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal is India's first private-public partnership in the ports sector. While the Terminal commenced operations long ago, it has never lost its importance to the shipping fraternity. Today, it still retains its position as India's preferred container gateway, long after the arrival of competition.

This Terminal, which operates with state-of-the-art infrastructure and provides world-class service, is certified for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 27001 management systems. In December 2008, DP World Nhava Sheva became the first ISO 28000 security-certified marine terminal in India and again proved itself to be a truly world-class container terminal, setting the standard for all other terminals in India to follow.

DP World Port & Terminal Nhava Sheva has been a strong propeller for the container trade growth India has experienced. "First" and "First amongst Equals" is what DP World Port & Terminal Nhava Sheva stands for – an ascendancy not seen before in the annals of Indian maritime enterprise. DP World Nhava Sheva has matched and surpassed the industry's perceptions and predictions in its 23 years of operation. With a limited quay length of 600 meters and a designed capacity to handle 600,000 TEUs annually, DP World Nhava Sheva has consistently handled an annual throughput well over its designed capacity for over a decade.

The terminal attained a "TEU per Quay meter" of 2,562 TEUs in 2010-11, among the highest in the world. DP World Nhava Sheva is amongst the container terminals handling the largest throughput with limited infrastructure, handling 1.54 million TEUs in 2010/2011.

Terminal Infrastructure

The Terminal operates state-of-the-art infrastructure and provides world-class service to its customers. Its 8 super-post Panamax Quay cranes ensure high berth productivity and are rated amongst the best globally, continuously surpassing records in throughput and turnaround times. 26 Diesel RTG work the yard, ensuring swift and precise traffic flow. A video wall, PTZ CCTV and a robust TOS ensure a 24x7 precise and efficient operation. The gates, which control and expedite container flow at the Terminal, have proven to be among its best assets, ensuring smooth continuity of container traffic flow whilst handling some of the highest traffic loads.

Connectivity

A 600-meter quay line supported by landside and other ancillary services, including road and rail connectivity to the country’s major cargo generating hinterlands, makes this the Terminal of Choice.

Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal has multimodal connectivity. DP World Nhava Sheva is located in Navi Mumbai on the West Coast of India. International standards, state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge IT systems place it among the elite list of world-class container terminals.

Road connectivity between DP World Nhava Sheva and the rest of the country is through the National Highway NH-4B and State Highway SH-54 through “last-mile” road connectivity to the Terminal.

Largest co-efficient of rail traffic in the country

DP World Nhava Sheva links to a wide network of inland container depots (ICD) in Pune, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ludhiana and the NCR Region through two sets of railway sidings, which ensure efficient and successful operations. The Terminal is connected to India’s major highways and rail networks, which gives access to neighboring Mumbai and to the hinterland of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and most of North India. DP World Nhava Sheva handles an average of six trains a day and 160 trains monthly.

• NSICT has the maximum rail connectivity to major markets in the hinterland
• 150 trains monthly – 100 trains to the NCR Region (Tuglakabad, Loni, Dadri, Faridabad, Patli, Garhi Harsaru)
• Rail infrastructure by way of two rail sidings serviced by three RMG inside the Terminal
• Capacity to handle six trains per day

High Reefer Handling Capacity

NSICT has the capacity to handle 762 reefers at any given time. It handled a formidable total of 68,139 TEUs of reefers in the year 2021. Precise and controlled monitoring has endeared it to temperature-sensitive cargo shippers.
